So many of you all have been wondering where I've been, or what I've been doing musically...

Well...

Here it is!

I now teach Hip Hop Creative Writing class at Pedro Albizu Campos Puerto Rican High School, and this is the project we've been working dilligently on!

But, my students and I need your help! All of our music was stolen, as well as thousands of dollars of equipment from the Batey Urbano. Our spirits were broken, but thanks to Sho Shot and studio donors, we've been given studio time! So, our songs can be re-recorded and we can come back harder than before! But not without your support and assistance... We need blank CDs, flyers, CD covers and funding so this project can continue next year and for years to come! We're hoping to release this project in July, and it will be available for download on this website and in hard copy form.

...it's a celebration, bitches :)

Stankita & I are sitting here, (no, that's not really her name. If I gave you her real name, I'd have to kill you ;p), listening to some good ol' Michael Jackson. Feeling like a bit of a Smooth Criminal. Got a little something on my chest, vibe with me for a minute...

So they say Chicago is the city of haters. I'm going to have to go ahead and jump on that bandwagon this time around, 'cuz I don't feel the love. Lets get one thing straight. I love my family, and family include true blue (pink?) fans and friends. But when I tell you that I had a hellish time completing this mixtape, I'm not saying this for you to feel bad for me. As a matter of fact, I'm saying it so you can respect my hustle even more.

"But the mixtape is done, Pinq." You say.

"But where were all the people that claimed to be down with the team?" I say.

I think if we all jumped behind one artist in Chicago, and pushed them up, up, up... Then the sky would be the limit! Too many people are interested in self, not enough people are selfless. I have dedicated my whole life to the revolution of us through hard fucking work. Don't you think that if anyone is worth the boost, it's me? That's just on a philanthropic level, because this world needs a change. But what about musically? Realistically, I put in work. Who says/spits/writes shit the way I do? No one. There's only one me, and that's me. I got 6+ years in a game that doesn't support me.I dirtied my fingernails, and cried tears because I didn't know what else to do to get people to take me seriously. I never showed anything that didn't need to be showed, because respect is the upmost virtue.

I was at the Chicago Rock the Bells concert this past weekend, and KRSONE asked where the female MC's were.
I was the only one who screamed.
He looked at me and said this is what we need.

Am I what Chicago needs? I've come a long way.

I'll give you my whole story in this blog, because I always have new stories to tell...

I became a teacher, got my own apartment, got my own car, recorded a 24 song mixtape, found a new spirituality (Nichiren Buddhism, look into it!), traveled to Italy, taught in Africa, traveled to Amsterdam, lost a dear friend (RIP Rope 30!), got some tattoos, got a radio show, (www.UICRADIO.org), am almost finished with my degree @ UIC aaaaand launched www.PINQYRING.com. Among so many other things! Who wouldn't want to support someone with so many notches on her pink belt? I've always said there are two broad ends of the spectrum when it comes to lady MCs, and it's either gangsta tough girl who is almost like a guy, or raunchy sex kitten. Welcome to the anti-typical. Welcome to Pinq Vision. I'm not even going to go into details of all the bullshit I had to endure to get this project done, I would be writing this blog for years. I don't have years. I have music to make.

I will say that half of that shit I wouldn't have gone through had I been a male MC, in another city. Respect my opinion. I lived it. What's the problem Chicago? I get more love everywhere else than I do here at home. I love my city.

I'm just trying to get the money back so I can work on the next mixtape, ('Cuz it's already in the works ;p). I also dream, envision, yearn for my own non profit company. (Shout out to Understanding Cipher, Inc.!)

The lack of realness in this industry will be shut DOWN once I get my pink sneakers in the door, ya'll wanna help me judo chop some MF'ers, or what?!

I'm not trying to break your bank. I just want your respect. I get on, we all get on.
